In BedWars, your bed is your extra life. While it stands, you respawn every time you die. Once it breaks, the next death knocks you out of the match. That's why good defence comes in layers. You build blocks around the bed, add warnings and traps from the shops, and get home fast when someone breaks in. This guide covers which blocks to buy, how to stack them, and what to do when an enemy is already hitting your bed.
The blocks you can build with
All of these are in the Blocks section of the Item Shop. Press F at the Item Shop NPC to open it.
- White Wool: 8 Iron for x16. The cheapest block. It's great for bridging and for a first cover around your bed.
- Oak Plank: 14 Iron for x8. An option for your middle layer.
- Stone Brick: 40 Iron for x16. Good value for the bigger layers.
- Blastproof Ceramic: 16 Iron for x4. One of the harder blocks.
- Obsidian: 1 Emerald for x4. Another hard block. This one costs emeralds, not iron, so it's a later buy.
Breaking any block takes several clicks, and cracks show how much damage it has taken. Harder blocks buy you more time, and time lets you get back to your bed.

For every price in the shop, see BedWars Item Shop Prices: Every Weapon, Armor and Block.
Build your defence in layers
Start cheap, then add stronger blocks as your iron grows.
- First minute: buy White Wool and cover every side of the bed, including the top. The tutorial asks you to place 8 wool blocks around your bed, and that's a good start.
- Turn your camera all the way round the bed. It's easy to miss the far side, and attackers will find that gap.
- Second layer: once you have spare iron, wrap the wool in Oak Plank or Stone Brick. Stone Brick gives you 16 blocks for 40 Iron, so it's handy for covering a big area.
- Outer layer: put Blastproof Ceramic on the outside.
- Late game: when your team has emeralds to spare, add Obsidian on the faces enemies are most likely to reach, such as the side facing the mid bridge.
- Keep a stack of wool in your hotbar so you can patch holes straight away.

Tip: before placing blocks, switch to them in your hotbar (usually key 3). Clicking with your sword places nothing.
Why Blastproof Ceramic matters
Attackers don't only use axes. The Item Shop also sells explosives:
- TNT: 35 Iron
- Fireball: 75 Iron, thrown and explodes when it hits
- Siege TNT: 350 Iron
Blastproof Ceramic is one of the harder blocks you can buy. It costs 16 Iron for x4, so it isn't cheap per block. Use it on the outer layer where it counts, not for bridging.
Upgrade Shop protection: Bed Alarm and Bed Barrier
The Upgrade Shop NPC stands next to the Item Shop. Press E to open it (F may also work). These upgrades cost diamonds and help your whole team.
- Bed Alarm: 2 diamonds. It warns you when enemies are near your bed, so you know to head home.
- Bed Barrier: 5 diamonds. It puts up an energy barrier that protects your base for 3 minutes.
To buy one:
- Open the Upgrade Shop.
- Click UPGRADE under Bed Alarm or Bed Barrier.
- Check the feed for a message saying the upgrade worked.

Bed Alarm is cheap, so it's a strong early pick. The Bed Barrier only lasts 3 minutes, so save it for when a big push is coming. To find diamonds, empty the Team Crate at your generator by pressing F.
For the other team upgrades, see BedWars Team Upgrades: Every Upgrade Shop Tier and What to Buy First.
Traps and slowing tools
- Tesla Coil Trap: 65 Iron, in the Blocks section. Place it on the way to your bed.
- Gloop: 35 Iron, in the Combat section. It's a glue you throw. It grounds and slows any player it hits. Throw it at someone running in to break your bed, then catch them with your sword.
Traps don't replace blocks. Use them to buy time while you or a teammate get back.
What to do when an enemy reaches your bed
Act fast. Each second they spend hitting your blocks gets them closer to the bed.
- Recall home. Stand somewhere safe and press C (or click the 'Go to base' button by the hotbar).
- Wait for the 'Teleporting back to base...' countdown. Don't move or get hit while it runs.
- Throw Gloop at the attacker to slow them down.
- Fight them with your sword. Click about 5 times a second and keep their nametag in the middle of your screen. Red numbers mean your hits are landing.
- Watch the edges. Fight from solid ground. If you can, knock the attacker towards the island edge so they fall into the void.
- Repair straight away. Once they're gone, fill every gap with wool, then put stronger blocks back when you can.

Remember that enemies can't defend their own bed while they're respawning. After you take one down, a teammate can sometimes rush their base.
If your bed is destroyed
You'll see 'YOUR BED WAS DESTROYED - YOU WILL NO LONGER RESPAWN'. From now on, one death knocks you out.
- Stay off bridges and away from edges, where knockback can push you into the void.
- Pull back when your health bar gets low.
- Stick close to your teammates and let the enemies come to you.
Kits that help with defence
A couple of kits can help you guard your base:
- Builder: makes your blocks stronger with the Builder's hammer, which you buy from the Item Shop. It's 399 Robux, and it also shows up as a kit you can rent after the tutorial.
- Vulcan: uses a tablet to control camera turrets around the map. It's 399 Robux.

You don't need either kit to defend well. Good block layers and a quick recall do most of the work.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best block to protect your bed in BedWars?
Use layers rather than one block. Put wool on the inside, then Oak Plank or Stone Brick, then Blastproof Ceramic on the outside. Add Obsidian (1 Emerald for x4) late in the game.
What does Blastproof Ceramic cost?
It's one of the harder blocks. It costs 16 Iron for x4 in the Blocks section of the Item Shop.
Is Bed Alarm worth buying?
Yes, it only costs 2 diamonds in the Upgrade Shop. It warns you when enemies are near your bed, which gives you time to recall and defend.
How long does Bed Barrier last?
Bed Barrier costs 5 diamonds and puts up an energy barrier that protects your base for 3 minutes. Save it for when an attack is coming.
How do I get back to my bed quickly?
Press C, or click the 'Go to base' button by the hotbar. Stay still and avoid getting hit until the countdown ends.
What happens when my bed breaks?
You can't respawn any more, so your next death knocks you out. Play safe, stay away from edges and stick with your team.
