Win More BedWars Matches: Tips for Upgrades, Rushes and Fights

Checked in-game 4 Oct 2026 Updated 8 Oct 2026

You don't need the best kit to win BedWars matches. You need good habits. Spend your first diamonds well. Break beds at the right moment. Swing at a steady pace, and never fight on the edge of an island. These tips cover the habits that win the most games, plus how to test items for free in Practice mode before you try them in a real match.

Spend your first diamonds on cheap team upgrades

Diamonds pay for team upgrades, and the first tiers are cheap. Before you leave base, check the Team Crate at your generator (press F) and your Personal Chest. There are often diamonds waiting in there.

Open the Team Crate at your generator to grab the diamonds

These are the best first buys:

  • Team Gen T1 (4 diamonds): your iron generator speeds up from 0.9s to 0.7s. More iron means faster gear for your whole team.
  • Diamond Gen T1 (3 diamonds): your base starts making diamonds, so later upgrades come faster.
  • Break Speed (3 diamonds): Tier 1 gives +25% break damage, so you break enemy beds and blocks more quickly.
  • Bed Alarm (2 diamonds): you get a warning when enemies come near your bed.

To buy one:

  1. Walk to the Upgrade Shop NPC next to the Item Shop.
  2. Press E to open it. F may also work.
  3. Click UPGRADE under a card you can afford.
  4. Check that the feed shows a message saying it was upgraded to Tier 1.

If a button turns red and says Not Enough, go and collect more diamonds instead of clicking again. For more on each upgrade, see BedWars Team Upgrades: Every Upgrade Shop Tier and What to Buy First.

Rush beds while enemies are respawning

Your bed is the most important thing on the map. While it stands, you respawn. Once it's gone, one death knocks you out of the match. The same rule applies to your enemies.

The best time to break a bed is just after you kill its owner. An enemy can't defend their bed while they are respawning.

  1. Win a fight near the enemy base.
  2. Switch to your axe straight away. Axes break beds faster than pickaxes.
  3. Aim at the bed until it has a black outline, then keep clicking until it breaks.
  4. Check that the kill feed shows the bed was destroyed.
Keep clicking on the outlined bed while holding your axe

After a kill, walk over the spot where the enemy died. Their diamonds and emeralds drop there, and the feed shows what you picked up. Free loot means a faster upgrade.

Once your own bed is gone, play much more safely. To keep it standing for longer, see How to Defend Your Bed in BedWars (Best Blocks & Traps).

Click at a steady pace and watch for red numbers

Spam-clicking as fast as you can doesn't help. Swings have a cooldown, so about 5 clicks a second is enough.

  1. Select your sword in slot 1.
  2. Keep the enemy's nametag and health bar in the middle of your screen.
  3. Click steadily, about 5 times a second.
  4. Look for red damage numbers. They mean your hits are landing.
  5. Step forward after each knockback so you stay in range.

Keep an eye on your red health bar above the hotbar, and back off when it gets low.

Fight from the middle so you don't fall into the void

Knockback is a big danger in BedWars. If you're near an edge or on a thin bridge when you get hit, it can send you straight into the void.

  • Fight from the middle of an island, on solid ground.
  • If you're fighting on a bridge, back off onto land first.
Fighting near the edge is risky, as knockback can push you off

This works the other way too. If an enemy is standing near the edge, hitting them towards it can knock them into the void for a quick kill.

Use Telepearl and Fireball for movement and knock-offs

Two items from the Combat section of the Item Shop are worth knowing:

  • Telepearl (2 Emerald): a magic orb you throw to teleport.
  • Fireball (75 Iron): a thrown fireball that explodes when it hits something.

Both are worth testing in Practice mode first, so you know how they work before you rely on them.

Move faster with Left Shift and C

Small control habits save a lot of time.

  • Sprint with Left Shift while moving. Hold it when you're chasing someone.
  • Recall with C (or click the Go to base button by the hotbar) instead of walking home.

To recall safely:

  1. Stand somewhere no enemy can reach you.
  2. Press C.
  3. Don't move or get hit during the countdown, or you won't teleport.

Recall is perfect when your Bed Alarm goes off and you're far from home.

Read the kill feed and the top bar

Good players always know what's going on in the match. Two parts of the screen tell you:

  • The kill feed (top right) confirms your kills and every destroyed bed.
  • The top bar shows the match timer and which teams are still alive.

Check them often. If a team's bed has just broken, their players can't come back once they die, so they're the easiest team to knock out. If your own bed is the only one left, you can play more slowly and carefully.

Test items and kits for free in Practice mode

Practice mode lets you try anything with no pressure and no cost.

  1. In the lobby, click PLAY, then PRACTICE.
  2. Wait for 'Entering Training Room!'. You get 999 Iron, 999 Diamond and 999 Emerald.
  3. Buy items in the Item Shop to try them out.
  4. Hit the dummies. Total Damage, Damage Per Second and Time show at the top right.
  5. Press STOP DPS on the left of the screen to stop and reset the test.
  6. Press CHANGE KIT (just below STOP DPS) to try a different kit.

Use it to practise your 5-clicks-a-second rhythm. When your DPS stays steady, your timing is right. A red flash on the dummy means the hit counted. It's also a good place to try out the Telepearl and Fireball.

Frequently asked questions

What should I buy first with diamonds in BedWars?

Go for the cheap Tier 1 team upgrades. Team Gen T1 costs 4 diamonds and speeds your generator up from 0.9s to 0.7s. Diamond Gen T1 and Break Speed cost 3 each, and Bed Alarm costs 2.

When is the best time to break an enemy bed?

Right after you kill the people defending it. They can't defend their bed while they're respawning, so switch to your axe and break it fast.

How fast should I click in BedWars?

About 5 clicks a second is enough, because swings have a cooldown. Red damage numbers show that your hits are landing.

How do I stop getting knocked into the void?

Fight from the middle of an island, not near the edges or on bridges. If you're fighting on a bridge, back off onto land first.

How do I go back to base quickly?

Press C, or click the Go to base button by the hotbar. Then stay still and don't get hit until the countdown ends.

What does Practice mode do in BedWars?

It gives you 999 Iron, Diamond and Emerald so you can test any item on training dummies. Use STOP DPS to reset the damage test and CHANGE KIT to try other kits.
