Chop A Forest Gems: Every Source and Which Gem Perk to Buy

Checked in-game 18 Oct 2026 Updated 19 Oct 2026

Gems are the blue diamond counter under your coins. They're much harder to get than coins, so it pays to know every source and spend them carefully. Your first gems should go on Sell Value for 25 gems. It makes every log you sell pay more cash, so it keeps paying you back. Below you'll find every gem source, what each Gem Perk does, and what else gems can buy.

Quick answer: buy Sell Value first

If you only read one part, read this:

  • Sell Value costs 25 gems and gives +10% cash per log. Buy it before anything else.
  • All four Gem Perks together cost 145 gems. The one-time group reward of 100 gems covers a big chunk of that.
  • Save the big gem items, like the gem trucks and gem tools such as Dynamite and the Vacuum, for later.

Free gems in the lobby

There are two gem rewards in the lobby. Grab them before you start a run.

Daily Reward pad

  1. From spawn (the START A RUN board), walk left to the REWARDS hut.
  2. Stand on the glowing blue DAILY REWARD pad.
  3. A '+N gems! Day X reward' popup appears.
  4. The pad then shows a 'Next in ...h' timer. Come back when it runs out.

Group reward

Join the game's group to get a one-time 100 gems. It only pays out once.

Gems you earn in the forest

Once you're in a run, gems come in small amounts, but they add up.

  • Blue gem drops near stumps: break blue gem crystals and stumps with gems on them for +2 to +3 gems each. Look out for them while you chop.
  • Selling logs: every sale gives +2 gems, on top of the coins.
  • Boss drops: Old Barkback, the Oak Wood boss, drops gems when you beat him. Walk over them to collect them.

Since every sale gives +2 gems, you'll earn some gems just by selling as you normally would.

To wake the boss, clear Oak Wood to 100%. Then shoot him from far away. For the full fight, see How to Unlock Birch Grove in Chop A Forest (Beat Old Barkback).

How to open the Gem Perks

  1. Press R or click the red SHOP button on the right side of the screen.
  2. Find the GEM PERKS list.
  3. Click the perk you want and buy it with gems.
  4. Close the shop with the red X (or press R once). Then step off the shop square.

Every Gem Perk: what it does and costs

There are four Gem Perks:

  • Sell Value: 25 gems. +10% cash per log. It's the cheapest perk, and it boosts every sale, so buy it first.
  • Bigger Bundle: 30 gems. +1 log carried. It's a small boost, but cheap.
  • Mutation Luck: 40 gems. +5% mutation chance. Mutations are special trees like GOLDEN and CANDY that give bonus rewards.
  • Gem Value: 50 gems. +20% gems from trees. It helps if you're saving for the bigger gem items.

A good order after Sell Value: buy Gem Value if you're saving for a gem truck or tool, since it boosts the gems you get from trees. If not, pick up the cheap Bigger Bundle next. Mutation Luck can wait until you have spare gems.

Other things gems can buy

Gem Perks aren't the only way to spend gems. These cost a lot more, so only buy them once your perks are sorted.

Garage trucks (Tiers 4 to 7)

The first three trucks cost coins. Tiers 4 to 7 cost gems, from 300 to 2,000 gems. The Stakebed Hauler (Tier 4) costs 300 gems, and the Timber Hauler (Tier 7) costs 2,000 gems. These gem trucks are marked PERMANENT. Not every higher tier is a gem truck: the Big Timber Rig (Tier 8) has a rainbow Robux BUY button. See Chop A Forest Trucks: All 10 Garage Tiers, Prices and Stats for every tier.

Gem tools

Some tools cost gems:

  • Dynamite: 249 gems
  • Vacuum: 199 gems
  • Lumberjack Bot: also sold for gems at the Tool Shop

Lumberjack Robot

The SHOP's FEATURED tab sells the Lumberjack Robot for 200 gems per run. It chops, collects and sells logs for you, but it only lasts one run. That makes it a poor deal next to the permanent perks.

Tips to keep your gem count growing

  • Claim the Daily Reward pad every time you play.
  • Pick up every blue gem drop you see. It's free gems for a few seconds of walking.
  • Clear every zone fully. You need that to wake the boss, and the boss drops gems.
  • Don't spend gems on one-run items until you own Sell Value and the other perks you want.
  • Play solo or friend runs. Only those save your progress, so you won't lose what you've earned.
