How to Unlock Birch Grove in Chop A Forest (Beat Old Barkback)

Chopped every tree in Oak Wood but Birch Grove is still locked? That's normal. Reaching 100% in Oak Wood doesn't open Birch Grove by itself. It wakes a boss called Old Barkback instead, and you have to beat him first. This guide covers the whole thing: clearing the zone, getting a gun from the supply crate, winning the fight and picking up what he drops.

The short version

Clear Oak Wood to 100%.
Get a gun from the WCT Supply Crate. The AK-47 costs 10 coins.
Shoot Old Barkback from a distance until he falls.
Pick up the gems, the Heartwood log and the Acorn Egg.
Walk into Birch Grove, which is now unlocked.

If Birch Grove still shows a 'locked (N left)' banner, either you haven't cleared every tree yet or the boss is still alive.

Step 1: clear Oak Wood to 100%

Look at the green bar in the top right of the screen. It shows how much of the area you've cleared (as a % cleared) and says 'Clear it all to wake Old Barkback'. Every tree you fell pushes it up a bit.

Hold left click on each trunk until TIMBER! pops up. If you let go early, the tree stays standing.
Pick up the logs, then sell them whenever your backpack fills up.
Keep an eye on the '(N left)' count in the locked-fence banner. It tells you how many trees are left.
When you get close, 'The ground trembles...' shows up with the number of trees left.

Hold left click on the trunk to drain its HP fastest

The last few trees are the hard part. They hide near fences and buildings, so walk around the edges of the zone. Your % can also slip back a little, so keep chopping until it hits 100%.

TIMBER! means the tree is down, so move on to the next one

At 100% you'll see 'Old Barkback stirs...' and then 'OLD BARKBACK IS AWAKE'.

One tip: progress only saves in solo or friend runs, so it's best to clear the zone in one of those.

Step 2: get a gun from the WCT Supply Crate

Every boss fight has a crate of guns nearby.

Go to the WCT Supply Crate near the fence.
Press E at the 'Choose a gun' prompt.
Find the AK-47 and click '10 • PURCHASE'. That's 10 coins, and it fires full auto.
Click BACK to close the menu.

What's in the crate:

AK-47: 10 coins. Or 299 Robux to keep it forever.
Glock-18: 1,300 coins (semi-auto). Or 15 Robux for one fight, 99 Robux forever.
Minigun: 49 Robux for one fight, 799 Robux forever.

The 10-coin AK-47 is enough for this fight. Watch which button you click, because some buttons on that screen are Robux ones. If a Robux window opens by mistake, close it with the X.

Step 3: fight Old Barkback

Press 3 to equip your rifle. Only do this after you've bought the gun. Before that, slot 3 might be something else, like the Trial Saw.
Stay well back from the boss.
Hold left click to shoot him from range.
Keep shooting until you see 'OLD BARKBACK IS SLAIN'.

Press 3 to get the rifle out before you go back to the boss

Two things will get you knocked down quickly:

Getting close. If you stand near Old Barkback, he knocks you down.
Using the crate menu mid-fight. Pick your gun before you start, not while he's attacking.

Got knocked down? Here's how to recover

Getting knocked down doesn't mean you lose. When it happens:

A friend in your run can revive you. Or just wait for the timer to run out.
You wake up at the cabin.
Walk back past the GARAGE towards the boss.
Press 3 to get your rifle out and start shooting again from a distance.

Step 4: collect the rewards

Once he's down, you'll see 'BIRCH GROVE UNLOCKED!'. He leaves some loot behind:

Gems: walk over them to pick them up.
A Heartwood log: walk over it too.
An Acorn Egg: it lies on the ground. Hold F for about a second to pick it up. A quick tap won't work.

What's next: Birch Grove and The Pale Stag

Birch Grove works the same way as Oak Wood. Its bar says 'Clear it all to wake The Pale Stag'. Clear every tree to 100%, and its boss wakes up.

Birch trees have about 3 HP, so they come down faster than oaks. Chop them, sell the logs, and watch the % cleared bar just like before.
